His awe was captured in this mission statement for Life Magazine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u201cTo see life. To see the world. To watch the faces of the poor, and the gestures of the proud. To see strange things. Machines, armies, multitudes, and shadows in the jungle. To see, and to take pleasure in seeing. To see and be instructed. To see and be amazed\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are at a similar moment of transformation today with the tools of simulation, rendering, and the ability to create and play artificial worlds. The theme of today\u2019s show is&nbsp;<strong>Radical Simulation:<\/strong>&nbsp;How will today\u2019s massive compute and artificial world-building tools help our generation, \u201cT<em>o see the world, To imagine its possibilities, To transform it, To connect with cultures and be amazed, To gaze into the future, and make smarter decisions as a society to get there\u2026.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1 <strong><strong>Tools for Simulation <\/strong><\/strong><\/strong>\u2013&nbsp;We\u2019ll be joined&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/anuj007\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Anuj Aggarwal<\/a>&nbsp;who leads&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/developer.nvidia.com\/nvidia-omniverse-platform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Omniverse<\/a>&nbsp;partnerships for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nvidia<\/a>, the semiconductor company which more than any other builds the compute power and GPUs at the core of gaming system Hollywood production and artificial intelligence. He\u2019ll share with us whats possible when Nvidia builds into hardware Pixar\u2019s universal scene description language \u2013 how the most sophisticated artificial worlds we see in movies can now be rendered real-time in games, in art, or in systems that let us simulate the physics, economics and the environments of our cities and planet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2 <strong><strong>Radical Simulation \u2013<\/strong> <\/strong><\/strong>Then, onto the cultural perspective: we\u2019ll hear from the team producing next week\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/grayareafestival.io\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gray Area Festival<\/a>, \u201cRadical Simulation\u201d. It\u2019ll be presenting artists using immersive worldbuilding to re-imagine adjacent possible presents through themes of embodiment, social justice, identity, decolonialism, and regenerative ecology. We\u2019ll hear from curator&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/kelaninichole.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Kelani Nichole<\/a>&nbsp;and Gray Area Executive Director&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/grayarea.org\/community-entry\/barry-threw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Barry Threw<\/a> on how the arts and culture can influence our simulated worlds. And why, in a world of digital twins and radical simulation, our online culture more than ever influences the real world, if that\u2019s even a distinction any more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3 The Culture of&nbsp;Mixed Media \u2013&nbsp;<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iftf.org\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Institute for the Future<\/a>&nbsp;Research Fellow and media artist&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caseorganic.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Amber Case<\/a><em>,&nbsp;<\/em>who has been exploring the cultural implications of mixed reality for years as a designer in the academic (MIT, Harvard) and corporate worlds (Esri.) She observes that we\u2019ve been living in a simulation for years, via 2D social networks. So why, when we envision the future, is it so often the same\u2014a kind of Jetsons vanilla world. How can we ask questions, use feedback loops, and draw on 5,000 years of history and culture to imagine the future with depth, and not the shallow aesthetic we are used to?<\/p>\n\n\n<div
